Functional Movement Screen

FMS.jpg

Functional Movement Screen (FMS) was developed originally from the concept of Functional Movement Systems by Grey Cook. It provides pracitioners with an assessment tool that is easy to use and implement, ranking movements and providing instant feedback.

The FMS is designed to highlight where the weakness is and correct them through corrective exercise strategies.

What's involved?

We take you through a series of basic movement patterns and give you a score from 0-3 - it's that easy. From there, we create a tailored corrective exercise program that targets your weakness identified the the assessment.

By looking at the way the body moves, not just one area, a weak link can be identified.

Clients report going to physio's or therapists for years with the same issue, and every time they will always say that the clinician only focussed on that area. For example, most practitioners will only look at the cleints leg if the knee is the issues, rarely do they look at the hip, ankle, or even shoulder. The problem here is that if we don't identify the weak link in the movement pattern, the body will continue to compensate will poor movement patterns which will eventually lead to some form of injury or pain.

What are the benefits?

  • Improves functional and athletic performance

  • Helps reduce the potential for training and sports injuries

  • Identifies physical imbalances and weaknesses

  • Rehabilitates imbalances and strengthens weaknesses with simple corrective exercises

Why is it necessary?

The FMS is essential for the everyday person to the highest level of athletes. It highlights what areas or systems of the body are causing or are going to cause you injury or pain, and allows us to design and implement specific exercises to address these poor movement patterns and reduce the risk of injury.

Who should get one?

Basically, everyone.

The screening isn't just designed for althletes, it can be used on anyone for any type of health and performance goal. Here are some examples:

WEIGHT LOSS

If you want to lose weight but have a glute that doesn't activate or have poor shoulder mobility, eventually the exercise you do are going to cause some pain or develop into an injury - this is going to prevent you from losing your optimal amount of weight.

ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT

If you want to run faster but have poor hip mobility, you will only get to a certain speed and stay there. However, if you focus on improving your hip mobility, you will be able to train your posterior chain more effectively, thus making you faster.

MUSCLE GAIN/HYPERTROPHY

If your goal is to gain lean muscle and get on stage to compete in a competition but you have limited thoracic mobility, you won't achieve the desired symetry in your muscle that the judges will be scoring you on. However, if you increase your thoracic mobility and open yourself up, you can get the desired range needed to create your symmetrical muscles and thus score better.

As you can see, it doesn't matter what your health or performance goals are. The screen is designed for anyone and everyone and will help assist you on what you are trying to achieve.

How can I get one?

This one is pretty simple - just get in contact with us and we will arrage a day and time at our closest location to you!

Private Health Insurance rebates are available, however this will depend on the level of cover you have.
